City of VarnaThe municipality of Varna is the administrative centre of the district of Varna, where over half of the generated Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the North-Eastern region (NER) of Bulgaria comes from. The location of the municipality and the degree of technical and social infrastructure completion are important preconditions for its economic development and state of affairs. Varna is the third largest city in Bulgaria with around 350 000 citizens and an area of 205 sq. km. Its situation on the Northern shore of the Black Sea, along with its richness in natural resources make it one of the famous resorts Europe-wide, definitely the largest one in the Black Sea region. It also happens to be on the crossroads between Western Europe and the Middle East. Here are also two of the most modern multifunctional halls in the country – The Palace of Culture and Sport and the Festival Congress Centre, which allow a lot of international cinema festivals, scientific forums and sport events to be held there. With its modern port, railway junction and international airport connecting the city to 35 countries and over 100 cities in the world, Varna is one of the largest transport hubs in Bulgaria.
